What the heck is this?

Screen shot this photo the other day of news footage from Ukraine. Guy is I assume a sniper with the Gilly suit but what the heck is he using for a sniper rifle? Appears to be an AR in possibly .308 (wide magazine) but with a carbine gas system and then a long thin barrel sticking way out? Would seem to be an odd choice for a sniper rifle or anything for that matter, appears to be no way to even attach a bipod with the plain retro hand guards?

AR10 with a Can on it.. they are working with what they have and probably handling business..

Not sure how much visibility he has through that front sight post with that optic..
