That’s obviously a Marlin 336. I wonder why they would put a safety on it way back then?
None of the other re-badged 336s had it that I remember.

That is actually a re-branded Mossberg model 472, the 472 had the safety. They also made it for Montgomery Wards under the Westernfield brand.
