Time for a small update. Last Thursday, while preparing for the MPSA match, I discovered that my CZ's front sight was not only loose, but it's also buggered up in a way that it's loose in the dovetail and the set screw pushes it up to where it's not flush with the bottom. My only guess as to how this happened is that the set screw became loose and the sight started moving on recoil, which caused some of the metal on the sight base to wear away?

Whatever the case may be, my front sight was sitting quite a bit higher than it was supposed to. I'm going to at least partially blame that for my low shots at Texas. I've ordered replacement front sight, so hopefully I'll be able to fix the issue.

After the front sight debacle, I decided to shoot a Glock at the MPSA match. I have a G34, but I don't really care for the Warren Sevigny sights on it and I haven't gotten around to replacing them. I much prefer the Dawson's on my G17. I also recently installed a DK trigger kit in my 17, so I shot it in the match. Unfortunately neither of my G34 holsters will fit on my Boss hanger, so had to attach the Safariland holster directly to my belt. It's not terrible, but I couldn't get it tight enough to not wobble and I had to do the chicken wing to reach it, because it rides so high.

Another problem is that I'm not used to reloading a Glock. I haven't done any sort of Glock reloads in over 9 months.

Overall, I'm ok with how I shot the match, especially using a backup gun. My first reload was a disaster. I fumbled it so bad I just dropped the mag and went to the next one on my belt. After that, I was more deliberate. While I wasn't fast, at least I got the mag in the gun without too much headache. My hits weren't quite as accurate as I'm used to, but they were alright. It was extremely hot at the match, so I didn't even bother with video.

In other news, I sold my 3-gun shotgun and rifle and I've got an Open gun on the way. It will be a little while before I scrounge up enough components and equipment to start loading for it, but it will make an appearance before the end of the year.

I've got to meet Max Michel Sr. at the Poplarville (SMSPS) USPSA match Sunday to pick up some brass, so I might as well stick around and shoot the match. The good news is that my new CZ front sight is supposed to be here tomorrow, so maybe I'll be able to get it fixed in time to shoot it.

In other news, the magwell of my Glock 17 looks like I have been chewing on it from practicing reloads last night.

I'm going to try out some of those cooling sleeves at the match tomorrow. We'll see how it goes

Shot the SMPSA (Poplarville, MS) USPSA match yesterday.

Granted it was mostly a hoser match, I still feel like I shot my most solid match in the last couple months.

I had 2 minor mental errors. One was the Mike on stage 2. I had a shot just outside the perf on the second headshot only target, but I called a good A/B hit. On stage 3, I put 3 rounds in the first target because I called a shot pulled left. It turns out that I had 3 holes in about a 2" circle. In both of those cases, I'm more frustrated about not calling the shots properly than the result.

Overall, though, I'm pleased with my match. I feel like my transitions are getting faster and my hits weren't too bad. The two Delta's were on the further targets, but I should probably concentrate a little more on making sure I get Alpha's on the closer ones.

The cooling sleeves seem to work. I think most of their effectiveness comes from keeping the sun off your skin, but they also wick sweat away and feel really nice anytime a breeze blows.

I did a few minutes of pseudo dry fire last night with my open gun. Then I picked up my CZ and it felt like a toy, which was really strange.

I didn't get much real practice yesterday, but I was able to setup my camera with a timelapse app on my phone and capture some pretty cool pictures.
