Staff Sgt. David Jonathan Thatcher died Wednesday in a Missoula, Montana. That leaves Col Cole as the last survivor of the Doolittle Raiders. They practiced their take offs and flights at Eglin and Gen Doolittle wrote the plans for the mission out on a table cloth in the old Bacon's By The Sea restaurant in Ft Walton Beach. RIP Sgt Thatcher.

RIP SSgt Thatcher, you were a hero to this country for sure. I drive down Doolittle street to get to 98 several times a week so I'm always reminded of those guys.

There is a Memorial Plaque on Bob Sikes Hwy. at the turn for the road to the practice field they used way out in the boonies. I've never been down that road to see if the airstrip is still there or gone like so much else. Brave men who raised the morale of a nation and struck fear into the Emperor of Japan
