Got a new S&W 642 (DAO,concealed hammer) the other day and noticed the action was not as soft/easy/controlable as I wanted it to be. Remembered that I had installed a Wolff Spring kit in my Mod 60 some years ago and decided to install a kit in my 642.

The "kit" comes as a package from Wolff. It included several rebound springs and a reduced power hammer spring. I installed the 8# hammer spring and the 13# rebound spring this AM. The trigger pull(long pull through) is quite a bit better. The length of pull is the same, however the total weight/force needed to fire the weapon is considerably less. It is FAR EASIER to "stage" the hidden hammer.

I would highly recommend the "J" frame(and others)owners take a look at this aftermarket spring replacement. The "kit" was $12. shipped. --- SAWMAN :thumb::thumb:

Agreed, the Wolf kit in the J is a must. Also for anyone with a K......the Miculek kit is about the same cost $15, and dropped the pull to a smooth 7 pounds in my stock 66.

thank you, it a s&w 642-1 (no lock, Magnum reinforced frame) we have Chamfered and Polished charge holes, reduced power trigger return spring(clipped and closed) all bearing internal surfaces and parts de-burred, chamfered, stoned and polish for the best double action job available. we do not like reducing the main spring power on any models with a floating firing pin as the nature of that system robs energy from you main spring and can cause light primer fires. we have developed a double action trigger job that allows the smallest and weakest hands pull the trigger with ease and accuracy while ensuring a good primer strike We gave the frame barrel and cylinder a nice satin glass bead finish removed all emblems to make a clean look installed the lady's favorite Ajax Pearl-lit grips, and the old school tyler t-grip and stippled the back strap

Reduced power springs will help somewhat . As stated above for a carry gun I stay with the stock mainspring . Deburring , polishing & moly paste will do more . Reduced trigger return spring is a double edged sword , go too light & it's possible to shoot faster than trigger can reset . Basically anything that'll reduce friction is the key . A smooth DA pull can still be heavy enough to go bang every time but feel much lighter .
