If you don't have appropriate containers for you to store your guns and ammo (out of site). You would be well served to get some soon. Some folks have a plan for the guns and then leave large amounts of ammo where it can be found.

Why the 2K of .223 if you don't have one Sir?

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Have dif levels of storage. A. Stuff you can pull, quick wipe and use asap. B. Stuff in long term storage.

Pack some Spray gun cleaner in too in case you really have to rush something into service. Cleaning gear and lube too. Have a loaded revolver on top of each pile of goods.

    Seal properly!!!

I'm a BIG believer in redundancy. I'm pretty damn glad about that right about now!

Charlie can do 100 clicks on 2 rice balls and a fish head. Not my cup of tea as rice can mold, rot and attract bugs and diggers.

Elevate your stuff off the bottom with a non absorbent material too.

Why not put a bag of rice instead. That way if the SHTF you will have something to eat.

Good idea! Bags of white rice will last a LONG time and 5 gallon buckets of honey will last forever and should be a staple of any good prepper's plan!
You would have to be sure the rice was in a breathable bag to act as a desiccant and it would probably taste weird after absorbing all the oil stink off your guns and ammo, but yeah, it would work!

We are talking about SEALED Storage of firearms and ammo. RIce will absorb THEN ROT in time! I'm no CSI but it will breed nasty funk that will grow on your goodies and damage them.

REPEAT: Do not use rice as desiccant in SEALED gun or ammo storage containers.
