Did a little bit of polishing on the stock and forend of the Henry Goldenboy this afternoon. Using meguiars PlastiX scratch remover, I chucked up a 3" polishing pad into the dewalt drill and went to town. Only took a few minutes and then followed it up with a carnuba wax for protection. Now it looks better than ever! You can actually see INTO the grain now and it shines like nothing else in the sun.

Note: this method may not work on all types of finish

    before:

notice how its just a bland, dull, no frills finish.

    after:

the process really took away that "walmart" finish look that I feel new guns have. They look like a cheap laminate, just glued over whatever wood. I desired more a deep, rich, real woodgrain look that resembles something finer. I think we got it out of this solid American Walnut stock set that Henry takes so much pride in.

After I sand and smooth a stock down to bare wood, I usually apply 3 coats of urethane and sand lightly between coats. Then after the last coat, I steel wool the finish then rub with pumice, then rottenstone. Your finish is what mine looks like when Im done. I'm currently working on a Browning 2000. It's been apart for way too long.

    pfffttt....

too much work. Polishing pad, cordless drill, ScratchX. 15 minutes later, done

I'm sure this method wont work on all finishes. I've got an extra Mossberg buttstock I'll try it on and see how it goes.
