go for a .357, that way you can shoot any .38spec ammo, & when she gets comfortable with it, she can shoot .357 shells, that way you don't have to upgrade again...

also, .357 is sometimes easier to find than .38spec. but many different loadings for 38 are avail, .38/.38spc/.38spl+p/.38spec +p+
