My first AR build was completed a few weeks back and I though I'd share the end result...
My 10 year son did most of the work under my supervision of course. He watched U-tube, then gather parts, rewind, watch again and start working. It was a proud moment when he looked at me and said " Dad, I hate detents!" We must have launched that thing all over....lol. Special thanks to Nate getting us started with the stripped lower and flip ups!

Looks like a nice flamethrower, and a great time spent with your son. Can't wait to do that one day with my kids.
I would eventually get a cowitness mount for the RMR if I were you guys.
Have fun with it. Those little things are a blast.

Thanks, Co-witness mount is on the way. I was on the fence weather to leave the RMR lower since the flip ups align just above. After shooting it I agree with you, co witness is the way to go.

Right at $1000. I found I could have built a complete PSA pistol for right around 550-600. I figured for 100-150 more I could go all Spikes. Nothing against PSA at all but felt Spikes had more brand equity.

That's an excellent build. As far as my thoughts, I too have a kak type can on the end of a 11.5 pistol build although it's a 300blkout. It makes it really kick so its hard to maintain a good check hold with rapid shooting. I ended up with a muzzle brake after the second range trip.

What brand and how long(9"?) is the slim keymod. Looking for similar look on build I'm planning.

I have an 8.5" Bison 6.8 and wished I had built it w a 10.5" barrel, my use is hunting though and now it shoots pretty flat 40-100yds. For a blaster I guess it is not as important. I put a scope on mine and may return to a red dot or holographic, the scope makes it too heavy and iron sights with my eyes is a no go. Then again I don't need it and may sell too as I have 2 16" rifles that I use most of the time, it is the bottom one in my Signature.

If you plan to use it as a "pistol" ..... with a SB-15 or other, the gun is gonna be super short anyway. As to not loose tons of velocity I would stick with a bbl of 10.5 - 12.5 inches. I have one with a 10.5" and it still makes for a super short and fairly light package.

BUT ...... I suppose that if you plan to shoot the shorter distances and you pick the right load, the shorter bbls will be adaquate. --- SAWMAN

7in slim keymod w/ 7.5 barrel. The KAK adds close to 1.5-2 inches to over all length. I just picked up a 10.5 upper in 300 for reaching out a bit longer. 50-75yrds would be as far as I'd shoot.
