Yes Gendoc the staff at Farm Fresh meats are wonderful people. They are always helpful. We always see guys bringing in hogs and deer to be processed. While in the mkt pickup a package of their stuffed potatoes. Just microwave, add butter and you have a meal.

If anyone is into Vietnamese food, especially pho, I went to Asian Garden Restaurant on Blue Angel Rd and Dog Track Rd. It wasn't too bad. Service was slow, due to one waitress working. Not very crowded.

Pho Dac Biet was pretty decent. Not bad, not flavorable as others. Honeydew tea smoothie was sweet and tasty.

The Golden Palace on Highway Davis had better pho.

I might go to Yummi Deli on Cervantes to try their Pho Sandwich. Hopefully someone could chime in and let me know if it's great!

Most interesting restaurants in P'cola? That's easy. Hopkins Boarding House in North Hill and Rusty's Fish Camp at Big Lagoon west of the Naval Air Station.

Hopkins Boarding House served HUGE Southern style dinners served family style. It was absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, no alcohol so we usually got half a buzz on before going.

Rusty's was famous for fried mullet. My favorite was the dishpan full of fried mullet backbones. Not only was there plenty of meat on the bones, but the crunchy tails were wonderful, chased with a hush puppy and washed down with a long-neck Bud.

Sad to say, both of these unique places are long gone. Anybody remember them?

Yessir, Hopkin's and Rusty's. My family used to hit both places on a real regular basis.

Rusty's had the best Mullet ever and their Cole slaw was out of this world. My mom got the recipe from them and to this day that's how I make it. I was too young to drink beer but always looked forward to a Coke and You got it straight out of a glass bottle. Paper plates and remember the disposable wooden sporks?

Regular at Hopkins too. Best fried chicken, best everything. I loved their fried eggplant, carrot salad, mashed potatoes, hell everything. When they opened Blanche's on 9th my dad would buy me stacks of those meal tickets so I could go there when he was working. When I was at Woodham High School I would sneak out for lunch, then hit it on the way home from school. That setup was the best thing ever for a teenage boy.

Another memory from Rusty's: The boat ramp. Lots of entertainment for a kid. Steep and slick. Spent quite a few meals chewing on mullet and watching cars spin out trying to drag a boat up that thing.

Hip Pocket Deli hits the road
    Taris Savell, pnjbusiness@gmail.com,
    pnj.com contributor 12:03 p.m. CDT May

The Hip Pocket Deli may have been forced to close because of future road construction, but the name lives on. George Makris, who is related to the deli's original owners, has opened the Hip Pocket Deli Food Truck in Warrington, near the now-shuttered eatery.

"We wanted to keep the name and family business alive," Makris said. "I have a passion for food and have been in the industry for 16 years. I was the chef at Angus Steakhouse prior to it's closing. I built this 24-foot food truck to be able to express myself through my food."

The self-contained truck has a complete kitchen line with a rotisserie for gyros, a fryer, a griddle, a four-eye burner, an oven, a deli box, a freezer, six feet of counter space, a hand-washing sink and a merchandiser for drinks.

The traveling restaurant prepares many of the Hip Pocket's most popular menu choices, including subs, sandwiches, Reubens, Philly cheesesteaks, gyros and salads. Makris is also planning to be available for catering events.

Wherever the truck is located, there is seating available. Several wooden booths with roofs are placed around the truck for customers who might prefer sitting rather than pick up and go.

    The official opening is today.

"I'm trying to be allowed to operate at Gallery Night as well and at other special city events," Makris said.

Hours for the truck are 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 455-9319 for location information and pre-ordering.

Used to love their grouper baskets with fresh homemade tartar and cocktail sauce on Friday's. Stopped by the food truck today and ordered a basket, unfortunately it does not live up to the original. The quantity is there but the batter is not the same, the tartar and cocktail sauce is no longer homemade. Was really disappointed.

Tu Do has the best Pho. Don't give a shout about the rats. They add a good gamyness to the broth.

TuDo is the place for Pho in my limited experience. Try #11, chicken pho. If you're not a soup person, try #115, vermicelli with roasted chicken . After dinner though stop by the Golden Palace next door for the smoothie. Try the watermelon with Boba (tapioca pearl). Not manly but damn good
