I asked the guy acting as guide about that for this specific hunt and he said they mostly take shot past 150 yds...they spot from a boat, get out, stalk from the beach and then whammo. He said itd be hard to get close enough for a 12ga, unless i just wanted to bring that and be the SHFT guy and use someone else's rifle. Everyone carried 44 Mags, 45Colts, or 10mm sidearms and 300 win mags that went last trip.

I also thought about using this a a chance to get a 350 Legend, 458 SOCOM, or 450 Bushmaster upper for my AR and taking that, but those are also short range.
Consider a 45-70. The old slower burning black powder cartridges like that produced more of a push on the shoulder than a mule kick. And you've still got plenty of energy on target way far out there. With that 45-70 they used to snipe buffalo from like 500 yards out. And most lever actions are considered lefty friendly

Black bear is a whole different animal . 30 cal rather the 06 , 300 mag 180gr Partition would be IMHO hard to beat . No sense in kicking the snot outta yerself . 300 mag with a muzzle brake would be tolerable for both of you .

I grabbed Dad a Howa 1500 30/06. I may go with a savage 116 or 110 storm in /06 as well as those are the only two stainless Lefties i can find under $1400. The two other gents will have 300 Mags.
Id love a 45/70 also, but the price....starts at $1400 if im lucky...ill see what the tax return brings lol
Cheapest option...450 Bushmaster or 350 Legend upper for $350.
Next is Savage 116, then Storm 110, then 45/70 at the top of price range.

This one on the forum is starting to catch my eye, only issue is the ammo availability.

Stainless steel is nice to look at and less prone to rust, granted, but if you're only going to use this rifle for a week or two every year then you don't need stainless steel, only want it. Look at your blued options and you'll be amazed what you can find left-handed. If I was stuck on finding a bolt action design for hunting dangerous game I would not want anything less than a Mauser claw extractor (for controlled round feed) with a last round bolt hold open magazine follower and robust iron sights permanently mounted on the barrel. The question is how much is your life worth? I would spend the extra money or stay home.

For serious working rifle IMHO it's hard to beat composite / fiberglass / kevlar / graphite stocks & I prefer parkerized carbon steel over stainless , especially if exposed to freezing temps . Also agree with claw extractor / controlled feed for dangerous game , along with express sights . If you gotta have optics a 1-3 or4X hobo tough with a quick recticle ( I prefer the German # 1 or 4 for this ) . Leupold used to make one , if you gotta have Euro S&B are the toughest .

    Thats a gorgeous gun.
Great thing about that 338 WinMag caliber is that there are a lot of different loads available for it. Very versatile. If you want to you can go with a light for caliber projectile that is more akin to 30-06 projectile weight and also a light powder load, but still in the 338 WinMag caliber. And they are relatively cheap for a magnum because of using an off the shelf 30-06 length receiver

Not any of the calibers that you listed, but I have a left handed Browning Abolt II Stainless Stalker 7mm Rem Mag. Plenty strong enough for even the largest black bears and it will reach out there. If interested let know by PM and I'll send you some pics.
