Hey Frank, I just bought a single shot for those same reasons.
Open the action, drop ANY 22rd in,close the action. Shoots anything.
Suggest you get a shorter LOP also. 13 inches MAX. 12 is mo-bedda.
Mine is a little Savage. ---- SAWMAN

The little gun that I got had a 10.5" LOP. A little short . . even for me.
Easy fix is one of those slip on rubber recoil pads. Adds 1". OK for the size of the gun.
If your gonna add a sight or scope,do some research as to how it will be mounted. Remember, you got to get to the loading port to insert every round.
Most are not drilled and tapped for a base. They just have the twin grooves,so tip-off rings only. Finding a red dot sight could be impossible. A very small laser could be doable.
I just use the irons on mine. --- SAWMAN

You can actually buy an adapter that mounts on the groves of a tip off receiver top to turn it into a weaver mount. Tip-Off to Weaver Mount. Ebay or Amazon would have them.

I will hit the pawn shops tomorrow and see what they have. I have seen no inflation on the common 22 rifles, I can buy new, just curious if people had old beaters around for me to burn all this ammo with.

I prefer irons for 22lr too. More accurate at extremely close ranges.

Hey Frank, I wouldn't mind letting go of a 22 revolver. Medium frame DA/SA 4" stainless Smith with the original wood grips and original cardboard box. Collector grade when I bought it a couple years ago for like $800
