I have a plain jane Winchester 94 in 44mag that I've had for yrs. Saddle ring carbine with a 20" barrel. I purchased it new in the early 70s but never warmed up to the caliber. It's a near mint safe queen with about a 100 rds thru it. I think I might be interested in trading for a similar condition '94 in 30-30. Is the .44 mag caliber more desirable or less in the '94? If I get serious, I'll post in the for sale section with some pics.

Those are fairly rare in .44mag. 94s in 30-30 are pretty available but currently on gunbroker theres only 2 in .44mag. Ones bidding at $1,100. Other is a "centennial" edition and over $2,000. Condition and factory box bring a premium. Minimum I'd even consider would be probably $1,200-1,300...

It's complicated. It about Supply and Demand. Pre '64 vs post '64. Condition vs age is also a big part of the equation. The new Asian Winchesters are bringing up to 2K with a rang safety installed. S and D is your friend. I think G-rat might be close to something.

Close to trying to make an offer or a deal maybe!

Per gunbroker, only recent sale seems to be a NOS 16” Win 94AE model in .44mag for $1150

Some had feeding problems as action is over long for cartridge & like the Marlins twist rate too slow for heavier bullets . I too bought a Henry , with its 1 in 20 twist it handles anything I'd care to stuff in it & will put a tube of selected loads into 2" or less @ 100yds .

Danny came over yesterday and showed me his Ruger 44 Carbine. Great little stalking or closer range deer plot/club gun.
I had a model RS carbine. An older style with the ammo release button and a factory peep sight.
It shot the Hornady 300gr XTP's and Sierra 265's extremely well.
Ideal for close range hogs. ---- SAWMAN
