I have been seeing a lot more 40 cal sales (brass and bullets)....I am starting to reload and my preferred caliber is 40...is there anything going on with the 40 s&w caliber that I am not aware of? Am I gonna be that guy looking for cassette tapes for my music again.

A lot of LEOs are going back to 9mm and away from 40. FBI just announced they are returning to the 9mm as a standard issue. There is about to be a glut in both 40 hardware and ammo, which explains why it is starting to be on sale.

It's a snappy little bastard that offers no performance gain over 9mm. I hate it, it's stupid, and I hope it dies.
However, the guns are cheap, and ammo always available, even during shortages.

The only purpose I've found for .40 is to make major power factor in USPSA Limited division. Otherwise, I prefer 9mm.

Variety is the spice of life! .40 cal is a great round and enjoy the price. Long term, it is not a good thing for a round to lose popularity as eventually it might rise due to lack of volume. I don't think it will go the way of the dodo...all ammo is coming down in price and I think we are at the "pre-cruch" prices mostly minus maybe a little local inflation. Oversupply might drive it down even further, especially if the election does not favor an anti gun leadership

I bought my first .40 chambered firearm about a month ago. I bought it because of the gun, not because of the caliber. It does seem that ammo is pretty cheap right now so I'm going to stock up.

    "I'm even over 45 nowadays"

I'm really getting worried about you. First, after years of use, you ditch the 1911 platform. Now, 45 caliber all together? Tell me it's not so. Tell me this is just a lapse in judgment. Tell me your still my hero :)

FBI primary reason to go back to the wonder 9mm because of advancements in bullet technology and use of a specific cartridge. Unless you use what they use (gun, cartridge and velocity): their findings don't apply to your 9mm and ammo. As you are an individual and not trying to find one size fits all soulition, you realistically have more options you can chose from.

That leaves all the usual caliber, firearm, ammo, recoil, wear and capacity discussions to continue ad nauseum.

I am accepting firearm and ammo donations from all who suddenly find their 40S&W distasteful.

Don't know this for a fact, however I'm sure some of you google types will figure this out,but the 40Short&Weak came about after the FBI trainers could not figure out how to get the agents to qualify with the 10mm. And I do believe that this was using the old 170gr Norma load in 10mm. I suspect that the 10mm was more recoil than the FBI was willing to take the time to train the agents for. Especially the up and coming, politically correct female agents.
Apparently the 10mm was waaaaay too much gun for the guys and gals going thru Quantico. Soooooo . . . the FBI switched over to the 40S&W. IMO they should have dropped back to the 9mm . . . . but . . . . ----SAWMAN

If you're gonna lose a round or two in capacity vs a 9mm at least get a round that DOES out perform a 9mm....357sig. Nuff said.
