I loaded some 38 special with 148 grain wadcutter hollow base over 3.7 of international clay powder. However I set the bullet with the hollow bass pointed up. I read of this many years ago from Bill Jordan that said this was his favorite self-defense load.

That was a recommend load back in the day, just don't expect a lot of penetration .
