Sounds like a lot of people need to be fired, from the Chief on down.
I cannot believe they sat outside that school
    listening to children getting shot.

If those chicken shits would have gone in right away they could have saved a lot of lives. Most likely those shot in the beginning could have been saved but they blead out waiting for about an hour before someone went in and killed the asshole.

I imagine orders to not engage came from way up the chain of command.

You are probably right but you would think, at some point, common sense would take over and they would have breached.
I don’t see how those guys can continue to live in that town.

I hate to say this... but it's true... there are THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of people in uniform who are not up to the task of being courageous in the face of danger or making good decisions under pressure.

In the past couple years we have had folks resign shortly after completing their training, I suppose they saw the realities of the job and wanted nothing to do with it.

The actual job of policing is quite different than what a lot of people think it is. Failures of this type are nothing new, the difference now days is the incidents are better exposed/documented and the information concerning incidents is readily passed on and available with little filtering.

Wife and I discussed this last night. Up front, I have long fully understood that LE are not legally obligated to protect/run to the guns. No kidding. For real. Look it up. The wife was quite surprised to see/verify that herself. Regardless, the public somehow expects just that....

Policy is what policy is. But, with total candor, I have nothing but contempt/disdain for anyone who would deter a MAN from doing what he saw fit to aid of his loved one(s) when all "the authorities" are going to do is stand there, secure the scene, and AFI. Just get outta the way, and MYOB, I got this.

Anyone that stood in his way is a lesser life form, IMO. If they feel ashamed/guilty, good. I take that as a sign there is at least some level of hope. Won't opine/speculate further, for the sake of the forum.
