Thinking about picking one of these up and throwing it on the G17 for one of my home defense guns. Anyone have any experience with these? Pros/cons?

Yeah that's what I was leaning towards. Have read nothing but good reviews on them.

I prefer the TLR-1 HL due to several reasons. It has 600+ lumens and strobe plus there is an optional remote switch that can be bought for it if wanted (last time I looked there wasn't one for the Surefire lights) and why pay the big bucks when you can get one of these for $114.00 at Botachtactical.com. I use them quite often and have always had great results.

I have had a TLR-1 for years and has never given me a problem, was expensive but worth it to me. I cant think of any other laser/ lights that have lasted that long.

The tlr3 uses the CR2 battery. Hard to find sometimes and $5 each battery. The tlr1 uses the surefire/cr123 battery more common. I have the tlr3 mounted on my 300BO that I use for home defense. Dropped the light a few times now and works great.

As Dan stated about surefire, they are as rock solid as stream lights. I've used both on deployments and never had issues with either. Surefire is just more expensive since they have gotten most military contracts.(this is my opinion)
