    The Windham Weaponry Story...

A team of the finest firearms manufacturers in the U.S.A. has been re-assembled to bring to market the highest quality AR type rifle possible. These good Maine folks - most of whom are former employees of Bushmaster Firearms - offer many years of experience in the industry, and all look forward to working with you, to serving your needs, and to building you a great rifle.

When the people who bought Bushmaster in 2006 decided to move it “lock, stock and barrel” out of Maine to New York in 2011, the original Bushmaster owner, Mr. Richard Dyke was left with both a dilemma and an opportunity. Almost to the day of the 2011 move, Mr. Dyke’s non-compete clause expired. He still owned the property where Bushmaster had been built, and knew all the workers - now laid off - who had helped him build it. He made a decision to “get back in the game” and promptly put an email out to many of his former employees and friends asking if there was interest in joining him for a new project.

With a resounding “yes” of support, he gathered the financing in two days, and started bringing people back into their long-time Windham manufacturing home. Phoenix-like, Windham Weaponry was on the rise. Within three months, the first productions models of the new Windham Weaponry line had been perfected and delivered. Quality, fit, finish, durability, accuracy and value were all superb - giving credence to Windham Weaponry’s motto “The Quality Goes In, Before The Rifle Goes Out”.

The firearms industry and consumers welcomed this new effort warmly, old friends and contacts were re-established, and sales grew. In less than a year and a half, Windham Weaponry had brought back almost 70 employees, benchmarked impressive sales numbers, and established their name as one of the pre-eminent firearms manufacturers in the country.

The press heralded it as “truly an American success story”, and all due to the vision of its founder. Further growth for Windham Weaponry has already been planned and implemented.

A “Carbon Fiber Division” has been established in Phoenix through a partnership with Patriot Ordnance Factory, and JC Machine and Motorsports LLC. The three companies have jointly occupied a new 12,000 square foot production facility in Phoenix which will produce rifles and firearms parts, and serve as a design and development center for new firearms products.

Freedom arms group just wanted the bush master name. They already owned DPMS so Bushmaster was just another feather in their cap.

So is Freedom Arms the group who move Bushmaster "lock, stock and barrel" to NY?

So, the guy who started up Bushmaster, sold it "lock, stock and barrel" and they moved it to NY. Then he started another company on the same property that he started Bushmaster?

Hmmm, times have changed.JMB sold out and had to move out of the Country to build the BHP.

Yes they moved Bushmaster into the same plant as Remington in New York. Even transfered some of the gunsmiths aswell....then layed them off. Thats when Bushmaster quailty went down a little. For the most part if you bought a bushmaster after the sale it was pretty much a Dpms rifle.

I get the newsletter from Windham once a month. The product lineup pretty much mirrors Bushmaster. They have even come oit with a Carbon composite lower now.

The Freedom Group, who is owned by Cerberus Capital Management, purchased Bushmaster in April 2006, but dumped it the day after the Sandy Hook shooting.

In 2002, the company was the target of a civil lawsuit involving one of its rifles. In 2004, Bushmaster Firearms agreed to contribute $500,000 to a $2.5 million settlement along with co-defendant Bull's Eye Shooter Supply, paid to some victims and families of victims of the 2002 Beltway sniper attacks. A Bushmaster-manufactured .223 caliber rifle was used in the attacks. The company cited mounting legal fees as the reason for settling. The company became part of the Freedom Group, owned by Cerberus Capital Management, in April 2006. In December 2012 Cerberus Capital Management announced its intention to sell Bushmaster's parent company, Freedom Group. In December 2010, Freedom Group announced that operations at the Windham, Maine, facility would cease as of March 2011.

Cerberus Capital Management announced in a December 2012 press release that they would "retain a financial advisor to design and execute a process to sell [their] interests in Freedom Group" (Freedom includes the former Bushmaster company). Cerberus indicated that the decision to sell the company stemmed from publicity surrounding the use of one of its guns in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. According to the company: "It is apparent that the Sandy Hook tragedy was a watershed event that has raised the national debate on gun control to an unprecedented level."

I can't believe somebody was able to sue Bushmaster because one of their rifles was used by a psycho to shoot a bunch of people. That's like suing Ford, Chevy, or Toyota because one of their vehicles was involved in a crash, resulting in a death. :der:
