Yes they put out a white noise that resonates and eliminate the ringing or at least that’s what I was told 25 years ago after having my hearing checked
Back then I was told the starting price was $1600 and they went up from there I hate to think what a pair cost now

I've got an older set and as I have gotten older I have noticed I can feel the concussion more. It's not loud to me with muffs on, but I'm sure there is some damage going on in there.
    What's your favorite set?
I've seen a 20 dollar pair advertise a better db rating than an 80 dollar set. I don't think I need electronic, never have before. Or do I?
My current set is 3m with a 21db rating. I see a lot of the newer sets listed at 28 and 31. Particularly the Walker set
    Thanks.
The electronic muffs are necessary for hearing commands from the Range officer if your participate in organized shooting events. I am am going to look into the plugs. During the summer months, muffs get me warm enough that along with mid morning humidity that my glasses can fog. For .22 pistol perhaps the plugs will be ok.
As already mentioned plugs + muff for super loud guns.
