This in my T/C in .221 Fireball. Very pleasant to shoot. I've yet to take any game with it but I have killed deer and hogs with my .30-30 barrel

Performance isn't bad for having a 2X scope and not doing much load development, I'm satisfied with the groups even if it is just 25 yards. Here is a group with Hornady 50gr. V-Max bullets using IMR 4227.

This group was fired using the 50gr. Combined Technology bullet, also with IMR 4227.

This is the .30-30 set up.

Don't remember the load details but I'm pretty sure this load was the 125gr. Nosler BT, hills hogs well.

I had a TC with a 10" 357 magnum barrel and a 2x shotgun scope. I used 158 gr Magtech out of the box and put 3 bench rest shots touching at 100 yds.
Hence, this is why I'm currently searching for another TC :)
That's suprising all the magtech ammo I've shot has been abysmal as far as accuracy goes. That's why I was glad the usg picked them for a supplier recently for domestic use.

It surprised me too and the reason I wanna do it again.
I've worked up loads for 223, 308, 454, 338-Winmag and 45-70 which all did good but with no effort, the out of the box ammo I spoke of did surprisingly well. It's been over 10 years and I hope they didn't change their formula.
I also wanna try 7mm TCU or 30 carbine with 200 gr as a sub rd

I love my T/C Contender in 223. I just got it back from Mike Bellm at Bellmtc.com as he ported and re-crowned the barrel. The original compensator blew off the end of the barrel as it was only soft soldered onto the barrel from the factory which was a poor design. I am very pleased with Mike's work! I shoot 1" groups at 100 yards using a Weaver 2.5x8 pistol scope. I shoot 1", 2" & 3" metal spinning targets at 100 yards. Sometimes I shoot 6" steel gong plates at 300 yards. This pistol has NO recoil and NO muzzle rise! Out of all my guns, this is one of my favorites!

Nice... I'd like to reacquire a .223, had one in the Encore but sold it years ago... mistake.

I’m still kicking myself for not buying one at an estate auction a few years ago. There were several and they went cheap but I had already bought two Win 94s, a Marlin 39 and a Colt 45 so I had to stop somewhere.

Mike Bellm does outstanding work as does MGM barrels . I;m fortunate enough to have 3 MGM barrels that Mike chambered
Magtech 38 special w/ 158 lead RN suprisingly would hold 3" @ 50yds from a 6" S&W K38 . If yer going for a Distinguished Revolver badge & don't reload both the Magtech & American Eagle 158 loads usually shoot well enough to leg out .
Hmmh I'd picked up a Contender frame from another forum member & had planed a carbine for a family member . Unfortunately nerve damage as has no feeling in one hand & not enough to be comfortable on a trigger with the other . I can't think of anything practical , so I guess it'll find a new home . I'll dig it out & go over it . IIRC mechanically good , has a silhouette shooters trigger on it , dual FP w/ selector , ez open , & somewhat finish worn .

Although not a contender this is my 221 Remington Fireball (XP-100) this deer was taken at 115 yards. If you can zoom in on the eyeball yes that's where he was shot .pistol has a 3x12 Burris scope on it it. has to be used on a rest but you can see what you're shooting at.

Sorry to hear about the nerve damage that's rough .

My 30/30 but I can honestly say I've spent more time with my encores.

The only Contender that we have now is a older (Cougar) 1986, 23 " 30-30 that has been rechambered (in 1988) to 30-30AI.
I built this up fro my wife's hunting while in Maine.
It has killed bear, moose, the larger whitetail (225+ lbs) many coyote, woodchucks, porcupines and some unnamed critters.
Back then I reloaded a Sierra 165gr Gameking and a 110gr for the smaller critters.
It STILL wears a 3.5-10X50 Leupold with heavy duplex.
Both of the above hand loads will shoot into .700" at 50yds.
I loaned this gun to a sport that killed a 925lb 64" bull moose at 70yds using it.
One shot through both lungs. He went about 60yds down the road before piling up.
Before I gave up my FFL I bought 6 Couger frames and in the next several years built them up into hunting guns. One was a 14" 223Rem and one was a 14" 44Mag that I had punched out to 444Marlin.
Will post pic when I get home. --- SAWMAN

I have an xp-100 in 7mm BR. Those contenders are cool too!
