I have an AR that I used to fire in competition. I'm thinking about replacing the upper with a flat top that can hold some optics since my eyes are no longer what they used to be when I was younger. This AR has a very heavy 1" barrel and I want to make sure that the extra weight of this barrel won't cause any problems with a "normal" flat top upper receiver. Has anyone had problems with uppers in this type of situation? Are there any manufacturers that I should stay away from and if so, why?

Shouldn't cause any problems, unless you have to open up the barrel nut. Oneshot in Jay opened up mine for me. Good luck with your project, I am still waiting for an upper, going on 7 weeks now.
