Hi guys. Recently acquired this A
    H. Fox shotgun from a fine member of this forum, primary for display. It has a repaired stock that cracked at the wrist. What is the general opinion of shooting a gun with repaired cracks? The repair isn't pretty but it does seem solid. Pic is straight out of the seller's post. Interested in putting a few rounds thru her before hanging her up! Lockup is super tight and barrels are straight and smooth.

    I have
If done properly it would need pins. Especially looking at the crack. That said if it was done right I’m with frank on this one. Shooting should be perfectly fine
I have a Stevens 311 that has been glued and pinned. It's nickle plated and 18 1/4" (for shrinkage.) I have fired it with no problems.

You need to know about Pumpkin Mountain...

From the look of the pic, it could be stripped, prettied up a little, and refinished...

Replacing the stock is an option...HOWEVER, it is NOT a Drop-In fit,
it will take some serious Hand-fitting by someone who is not just competent.
but better than average at working on high-grade side by side shotguns.
It is not something you want yer buddy Joe Schmoe to fiddle with.

Unfortunately Larry Bailey (Bailey's Attic) is no longer alive, and he's the only guy
I knew of in this town that I'd trust with a potential 2k to 5k shotgun restocking.

oh yeah...shoot the heck out of it. John Wayne would.

Ah...just saw where ya got it and more pics.
Yeah, you've only got a little bit in it, and a serious all-the-way restoration
would bring the value way up. Get a good engraver on it and it'd zoom.
They're great shotguns, well-reguarded, so if you find it shoots sweet for you,
and find it's worth some investment, an NOS stock and a blueing restoration
might very well be worth it.

What is it with old double barrels and split stocks?
I’ve owned 2 or 3 over the years and they all had split stocks in that same place.

when i was active duty i had a fellow Marine bought an old german mauser at a pawn shop. he took it out alone to some pond at the end of a dirt road to shoot it. the stock busted open on the first shot and went into his trapezius muscle. he had to drive to the nearest store to get help. messed him up pretty good. so...have someone with you when you first shoot it.
