Anybody using a scout scope and if so what kind and how well does it work. I’ve got a Marlin 1895 45-70 that I want to mount a scope on and I want the scope far away from my eye. I have the xs sights rail on it so plenty of room forward to mount a scope on it. I was looking at the Burris 2-7 scout scope but can’t find many reviews on it. Leupold also has a 1-4 freedom series scout scope but I want a lil more magnification than 4x. Gonna need a a good quality scope to hold up to the 45-70. I like to shoot the +p grizzly ammo.

I have the 2x7 on a 308 scout. It is perfect for the concept. I would go with a 1x4 for the 45-70. Just my 2 cts

I'm quite happy with my Vortex 2x7 scout scope. It's forward mounted on an aluminum UTG tri-rail handguard, so I can still load stripper clips thru the top of the receiver. I dont know what they go for in stores right now because I bought mine LNIB from a forum member. I paid like half the cost of the above mentioned Burris, and there's a lifetime warranty

I’ll check it out. I’ve got several vortex scopes and they hold up well. The only complaint I have with them is their weight. I’ll look at the specs on their scout scope and see if the weight is near the Leupold and Burris

I had a Burris older fixed 2.5x that had excellent glass and was rugged. I think probably plenty for the .45-70. Ebay best bet for that regrettably.

    Whew, a 420 at 2k is impressive.
