So I just got a SCAR 17s, haven't shot it yet however for the price of this gun I could have built a beyond top tier AR10 and had plenty of $$$$ left over. Can someone lmk what the benefits of the SCAR is. Plus its just so basic.

Back when it was design, benefits included (1) ease of suppression with the piston system / adjustable gas block, (2) east of barrel changes (different lengths, 16", 13", etc), (3) light weight compared to AR10 platforms at the time, as well as (4) caliber conversion to 5.56x45 - the military has a kit to turn a SCAR17 into a SCAR 16, but it isn't available to civies. Also the folding stock is something most ARs can't do.

I have had a 17 for 10+ years and paid far less than current ($2400) and at the time, it brought a lot to the table. It still does, however AR10 variants have done a lot of catching up in the interim. They have gone on a diet, become more reliable, and are more easily suppressed with more gas options.

I am still happy with my SCAR 17; however for the price they command now there are a lot of AR10s available that give it a run for it's money and honestly I doubt I would buy one in favor of a DD / KAC / LMT or other 762x51 ARs.

Yeah I SBR'ed both of mine but had the barrels cut down and threaded by Marvin Pitts; at the time other barrels had been "coming in a month" for about a year so I said F-it; he did a wonderful job and both rifles / barrels have been great for years - it was far cheaper too ($150 or so each, I forget exactly). Although I kick myself for not buying a OEM 14" SCAR 16 barrel assembly for $600 when Grabagun had them priced that way for a couple of weeks years ago.

Would love a 6.5CM firearm, but I just don't have the use for a weapon with that range around these parts.

If you have need of spare parts / etc, Midwest Gun Works is great.

There is a long shot range I believe in Holt that goes out to 1000 yards. It would be nice to try and hit it, although it might cost more in ammo than the rifle.

they stick out, it's normal. Still, check torque in the correct order on those screws and then shoot it. 62 inch/lbs

Oh yeah, I've been there - but outside of a range, hard to stretch the legs hunting or out in the wild. But yeah it would be fun.
