Have a chance to pick up one of these, but there is an issue with the gun. Extractor or spring maybe.

Gentleman says it will fire off a couple rounds then failure to extract. He's had it apart and back together and no change after a good cleaning.

Seems this is an issue with them from what I read. This includes all the factory papers, box, zippered cases wood grips, etc.

I talked to S&W about replacing the extractor or sending it in for a once over and the guy just about laughed at me. He said it was made over 40 years ago on a limited run and I could tell he was ready to hang up on me.

Found an extractor on eBay, just don't want to dump money into it end upside down.

Dons said they can go through it and machine parts as needed at 55 an hour.

It's a nice piece. I'm sure it will never go down in value, but I'm trying to talk myself out of it.

If the price is right I'd snag it. All original accessories....those guns are pretty cool. Most blowback .22 pistols will run without an extractor, as long as the ejector is operating properly. .22's especially small auto pistols are ammo specific. Try mini mags or even stingers with nickel cases. A little polishing of the chamber might do wonders.

I have always wanted one of those little Smiths but sometimes things are more trouble than they are worth. If you end up picking it up, keep us updated.

I've had several of the Walther P22's that were made by Smith & Wesson that were first-rate and never gave me any trouble. And I've known people to put them P22's to work as ankle guns, too.

Having polymer frames with alloy slides, those P22's probably even weigh less than the 61-3. The P22 would be for sure more accurate with more features and more common mags
