Sawman, how picky are these on ammo?

That was my concern as well,,, I've heard they do not like steelcase ammo.
If that's the case I'll stick with my AK & SKS

What about magazines? Any with greater capacity than the supplied 5-rd magazine? Do those higher capacity mags run well with the 7.62x39mm round's geometry as compared to 5.56x45mm in the original design platform?

That I know of steel cased ammo shoots good. If I want to go cheap I use the Golden Bear brand of SP and HP. The ammo is copper over steel case and it functions great in my gun. I have shot 4 different of American factory loads and several of the foreign 122-125gr loads as well as the 154gr Tula, all shoot great although some is more accurate than others. The 150Gr CorBon is super accurate as it should be for the super high price.

The mags that are available(that I have found) are the Ruger brand 5shot and 20shot. Then several aftermarket manufacturers make a 10shot,20 shot and a 30 shot(IIRC). I personally have not used anything bigger than a 20 and my go to for hogs is a 10shot because it is somewhat shorter. I use the stainless mags and they function great.

Potential Mini30 buyers must be aware that this gun will not achieve bench rest accuracy. However with some tinkering mine will shoot 1 inch groups at 50yds. The triggers are somewhat easily worked on if you take your time and the bbl was hand lapped by me. It was super rough from the factory. I removed the rear sight and installed the Ruger LOW rings. The med rings came with the gun when new. --- SAWMAN

    Thx Sawman
With the price of AKs now the Ruger would be almost as affordable
