I might buy nostalga if the chambering was 44-40 38-55 45colt or something. 45 70 nah more to it than that.

45-70 is an old cartridge. Excellent brush gun and you can reload about anything in it. Straightwall case for the places picky about it. That and the Marlin 1895 Action is the toughest one out there for the lever action.

I bought mine when I got a good up close look at Alaskan bears. I had planned to just carry a 460 Roland chambered 1911 while camping up there but quickly moved to Plan B. You can get 45-70 rounds pushing "elephant gun" status (4000+ lbs muzzle energy) that are safe in the Marlins.

Big thump or soft thump; lots of possibilities.
Add a suppressor, and you have soft thump with big whomp.
