Ok there must be a medic or someone with some medical training that can give me some insight on quick clot.

First some background on me. In February I had 4 stents put in my arteries but after they did the first 3 and took me to the ICU within 4 minutes, I had a major heart attack. Took me back to the Cath lab and worked on me about 2hrs. The stents had clogged up, so they redid them and added a 4th they, also change the blood thinner they were giving me. They stated it was the reason every clogged. Well back to ICU for overnight supervision. Next day they sent me home.

Well, the blood thinner they put me on insurance stated it was too expensive and not called for and just automatically put me on another cheaper brand. Well 7 days later at 10am I had another major heart attack at home. The attack was so bad the ambulance took me to West Florida as it was closer. I had originally had the stents done in Baptist hospital.

Well back into another Cath lab and they worked at least 4hrs on me. They found 3 stents clogged and they had also become unaligned. Well, they fixed what they could and put me back on the expensive blood thinner that had worked before. Back up to ICU for 4days of supervision. That 1st night I began to have another attack the surgeon was at my bedside in less than 3 minutes. He asked if I wanted to go back up to the lab or he suggested he give me a nitro drip thru the IV and give me oral morphine. I was to worn out and chose the nitro drip. Within 2hrs I was sleeping comfortably.

Next morning the surgeon came in and sat with my wife and I and side I chose right because going back in a 4th time wouldn't have helped as he went back over the video they took while doing the las procedure showed a lot of damage to the arteries and the heart chambers. He even had a 2nd surgeon look the video over.

So it was highly suggested that I get put in to in home hospice as with the heart condition sever diabetes, Parkinsons disease and a few other medical problems I'd get better care in hospice and hospice will cover all medication and special medical equipment needed.

So sorry about the long background. Here's the question.

With the blood thinners I get a scratch and I bleed a lot before clotting. But after a while they clot up. Yesterday I got a cut on my chest, and we wrapped it and put pressure on it and iced it. It kept bleeding threw 3 bandages and didn't clot for over 4hrs.

I started thinking today if maybe the quick clot thNineey sell might work to help it clot quick.

My nurse came by yesterday and checked on me and said we did the proper thing by bandaging, pressure , and ice it down. I haven't been able to ask her yet about the quick clot but thought someone here may have an opinion.

Nine months in Home Hospice, Nurse checks in 3 time a week. When advised to get into Hospice I figured I'd be way gone by now but I'm still here kicking. Don't know for how much longer but I'll keep pressing forward.

I’d be curious what the surgeon/doctor recommends. I wouldn’t trust what the on-call nurse-of-the-day says. Not a dig on nurses, but it’s a doctor question.

The quik clot helps to speed up the clotting process, sure, but if there are side-effects, especially with your blood thinners, and possibly amplified with the “prone-to-clog” stents, etc...

Maybe send the company a nice detailed email?

Quik clot burns! Not a good application for your use, I’m afraid. Quik clot almost cauterizes a wound, which can save your life from bleeding out, although it makes wound care a bit difficult afterwards. It’s an emergency “stop the bleeding” product, not something to be used for non-emergency stuff.

Thanks guys I took snake eyes advice. I called the Hospice surgeon and primary doctor, and we will do a conference call tomorrow morning. They are researching the product.

I do appreciate everyone who commented as I only knew what I had read about the product. Seems like with the comments it's not something that will work for me.

Thank you, guys. If surgeon says different, I'll let you know.

Talked to 2 doctors from Hospice who stated that the over-the-counter brand of quick clot has been reduced chemicals and would be alright to slow or stop bleeding.

I asked if either had used it, and both stated NO asked if they would both stated if needed and available, they would.

As for me I think I'd do a lot more research. Some of you guys have seen the effects in person and I tend to believe their views a bit more then someone who hasn't seen the effects in action.

I believe my healthcare specialist on most stuff where they can give proven facts and data. But I'm not seeing enough hard data yet on this product.

Thanks, guys, for your true opinions. Taikoon I wish I could hit the range before this all happened, I had purchased a few toys to play with but haven't had the strength to get out.

Each must choose for himself. Personally, I carry a clotting agent, a gauze impregnated with same, a tourniquet, hemostats, and other what I deem to be essential items in the woods. Personally, I'd rather do what I deem necessary and live to deal with the aftermath than be bleeding out, wishing I wasn't, all the while stressing over someone else's advice.

My $.02, I'd be seeking advice from a person who is 110% about keeping you alive in the golden hour vs some doctor who is waiting for you to make an appointment or show up in their fully-equipped ER.

Old school super glue worked wonders for me when I was on blood thinners. Just curious... did you get the Covid vaccines? My coworker Fritz had the Covid shots and 3 failed stints and two heart attacks later was dead as a door nail

    Here's an update:
Talked to a Trauma nurse and they suggested going to CVS and picking up
Blood stop. Picked some up. It's come's in sheet form and you cut it to the size needed. Clean wound area, apply the Blood stop sheet cut to size put pressure on it for 3 minutes then put a bandage over the blood stop sheet and keep it covered a few days.

Had to use it twice and it works excellent.

Thanks for the info. Glad you found a solution for minor cuts.

    Is it this stuff?

Stypic pencils for shaving nicks work well too. If the cut is larger the cellulose dressings work well but in the end, good long pressure is the answer. I wouldn’t use quick clot. I have had to clean those wounds out to suture them and that can cause problems. Obviously use whatever you have if the bleeding is severe.

For the record, I am a nurse practitioner, longtime ER nurse and paramedic., so not just blowing smoke…haha!

Thank you for your advice. This is all new to me. In February they put three stints in and put me on plavix. And my arteries clogged back up in 15 minutes so back into the Cath Lab to have the stints reopened and put on a different blood thinner Brilinta.

Now at times bleeding starts and won't stop even with pressure and Ice on it. Before using the CVS blood clot, it would bleed for hours without clotting.
Since I'm in Home Hospice the hospitals don't seem to care. Current Hospice care has very little information about how to stop bleeding other than bandage, pressure, and ice.

So far, I've used blood clot twice and it worked with in minutes.

Again, Thank you for your advice. It all helps.

Seems to work to stop the bleeding for you, so that’s great. What about aftercare?

How does it affect the healing? Meaning, does a scab form and the sheet just “peels off” as the skin underneath heals? Or does it break open and cause another endless bleed...

The paper actually gels up into the clot forming a scab, Once you shower and wash the area any part of the clot paper dissolves away just leaving a scab till it fully heals.
