A neighbor of mine has a pre ban bushmaster mod xm15-es2 that he wants me to make an offer on. It appears to be a cast lower with a 20” barrel and A2 grip and stock. I did very little research and found the serial number to be pre ban (L034xxx). I did find a similar lower with 2 bids on Gunbroker for $1200. Y’all’s input on value would be much appreciated.

I’d keep checking gunbroker and searching to see if any other sites had one on sale.

"pre ban" was a thing during the ban. Once it went away they didn't command any more value than anything else. I don't think any are particularly collectible and would base any value on overall condition and setup. I'm not savvy with the laws in the "ban states" but if it's still good to go as a "pre ban" gun it may command more money in those locales. Locally, I don't think anyone would care.

I am not sure where it was made. The cast lower receiver and giant forward assist button caught my eye. The lower looks like someone formed it from clay and baked it in an oven. The pins are good and tight. Does anyone know of a year that bushmaster switched to a forged lower.

If it is marked BFI and made in Windham, ME Bushmaster they are good to go! I have a Patrol Rifle model that was purchased on Department letterhead in the mid 90's. BTW the ones purchased on letterhead will usually have the 14.5" bbl w/ pinned Izzy Muzzle brake. The new Bushmasters are NOT the same critter! Just my .02 worth!

This is what my mid 90's made in Windham, ME Bushmaster Patrol Rifle looks like. Those markings should be to rear of the bolt catch/release paddle. If it wasn't made in Windham, ME I would pass on it! Good luck!
