Below is the kind of dog that was commonly fought. In those days to be game was to keep fighting even if the dog was being whipped. They were smaller than most pits are today.
But there were always some bigger dogs. Pits were originally mixes and apparently some larger dogs would appear in some litters. I am not really sure about the mixes. Obviously bulldog was in it. Not really clear if the rest was terrier or some other things in it.
Pound for pound a pit has more fight in it than most other dogs.

Dead Canine predator killed by white guard dog laying down at the left. Canine could be a hybrid. I do not see the word wolf in either the english translation or the Italian original. But I am not fluent in italian.

[[Another repertoire photo when dissuasion isn't enough we need facts and strong manners.
Picture from 3 years ago Mussolini (1 year at the time) rests between the sheep and the predator (a rebellious bitch) after killing her.

I really like the fact that everyone on here cares and appreciates their 4 legged best friend as I do mine. But has anyone seen the video of the North Carolina k9 officer abusing his so called partner? You need to search N.C. k9, and watch the video. I certainly hope this dog gets to see his handler get his ass beat.

I will not go searching for such a film depicting such behavior.
