Is there a Big Game Hunting need for something other than one of the .30 calibers? Now the 30-30 used to be available and economical, but nowadays the .308 Win has assumed that role. So is there a champion from rifle cost/ weight to ammo cost/availability that delivers more?

Love the medium calibers, but it seems that only the Magnum Rifles are offered NIB. Even the beloved 9.3 x 62 mm is getting hard to find on dealer shelves.

Lots of current fad calibers that will be a flash in the pan then fade into obscurity. Like the WSM and WSSM calibers a few years ago that you can't find ammo for anymore. There are lots of calibers other than 30 out there. Never been a 30 caliber fan myself and have owned several.
The manufacturers make what they pay the gun writers and famous you tubers to tell the masses they need to buy.
It's hard to beat the old work horse calibers so they have to create new calibers to fill a niche that they tell you exists.

Could be, but somehow the 7 x 57 seems to be missing from most current production hunting rifle lineups?
Marlin 336 in .35 Remington is my favorite rifle . Although I have more expensive rifles in different calibers,( semi and bolt ) that rifle has a perfect score over the years with pigs and deer .

Many folks still desire medium calibers, but even the Great .Model 71 & 348 Win have passed into obscurity. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester_Model_71. While the 30-06 and it's projectile sharing .308 Win still March on. Even the 30-30 Master of the Lever Action is starting to wain. Perhaps it's due to the popularity of those Evil Black .22 caliber Rifles? Seems everyone has got to have one, and the Government is doing it's best to find ways to outlaw them. Even Old Uncle Bill Ruger is pumping them out nowadays. Guess it's time to follow the caliber listing for AR Rifles or lapse into history with all the other extinct factory Loadings?
