I learned a long time ago(most likely from jj) . . . never be ashamed for buying a scope for a weapon that cost as much,to three times as much,as the weapon itself.
Every one of my NEF Handi Rifles and a older T/C Contender has scopes on them that are worth more than the weapon itself. Now,in my older age,I have grown out of the lower end scopes. For me,it is Leupold and above nowadays.
If you have to explain to someone why you would buy a scope or sight that costs more than the weapon itself . . . they most likely own Tasco,Simmons,and maybe even a NcStar. --- SAWMAN
P.S. - - -> And whatever optic you choose . . . please mount it properly.

Lowest I would show up to the GCGF swap an meet with is a Nikon or millet. The older I get the less I have that are not Leupold VX3 or better. For your budget the answer is Nikon Buckmaster 4-12x50mm or a Vortex Crossfire ll - take my answer to the bank, I tried for a decade to be happy with $200 an less scopes!

For years,when he belonged to PFF,Stanley used a paper towel roll tube taped to the top of his tree rat gun. He always had "rat inda pot" with this setup.
THEN . . . gosh darnnit . . . he went and joined GCGF. We "wised " him up and now he is making them 1000yd shots on deer out in the delta from his log raft.
Stan knows his shit since he came over here. --- SAWMAN

I just picked up a Rem 700 in 223 that came with a no-name scope i would like to replace it with "decent" glass 150-200$ budget.. Eventually i would like to put it in a magpul hunter stock.
Thanks i have never owned quality glass so i dont really have a frame of reference.
Something along the lines of a 4-12 x 42-44 maybe.
I would prefer mil dot reticle and finger adjustable turrets also.
