Yesterday after a postal delay, caused by Hurricane Sally, the pistol grip screw finally showed up, along with buttstock rattle spring. So I installed the spring along with the cleaning kit. Then swapped out the pistol grip and screw. Now she looks even more proper and authentic.

Somewhere around here I have or at least had two Romanian steel magazines. I've looked at some American made steel magazines, but the reviews haven't been favorable. So if anyone has any experience with US made steel magazines let me know what you think of them.

Looking good. A lot better than the wood that comes on it for sure.

Oh hell yeah, the blonde wood they use is soft, knocked a chip out of it, just using my hands to remove the buttstock. After it was removed I was amazed how light in weight the buttstock was.

Might just take some surplus Romanian magazines and change out the floorplates and followers.

Love to find a buttstock with some graffiti on it.......But they are few and far between and getting expensive.

I have a Albanian used SKS with stock graffiti on it, looks cool and tells a story .

Most likely it is white birch. Beech and most maples are hard and heavy.
Same stuff that they use for popsicle sticks and tongue depressors. ---- SAWMAN

Looking good. Been wanting to do that myself. Where did you order the wood, grip, and grip screw from, if you don't mind me asking?

Nice surplus wood, getting hard to find these days. Your best bet on the mags is original combloc surplus (see them from $17 and up now depending on condition and origin). The new Bulgarian commercial metal mags are pretty good as well. They come with a polymer floor plate and follower. Other than those, Circle 10 and XTech metal reinforced polymer mags are good. Chinese flatback mags are my favorite, personally.

    Lookin good.

I did something similar when I had my WASR. I replaced the blond furniture with after market dark wood to mimic the Soviet rifles. Does the stock have the cleaning kit insert too?

The stock set (Buttstock, handguards, pistol grip), came from Atlantic Firearms. The pistol grip screw, and buttstock rattle spring (for the cleaning kit) came from SARCO.

Yes, I have the cleaning kit installed. The stock came with the trapdood and was setup for the cleaning kit, but lacked the rattle spring, which I had to order along with a cleaning kit.

They are hit and miss with Romanian stock sets, one day they're in then they're out. They are currently showing out again.

I paid $50.00 with $ 15.00 in shipping or $75.00 for the stock set.

But they do have some Polish stock sets right now.
