Ok...is the Mossberg Shockwave a serious defense weapon or more of a "thing"?

I was recently looking at the "night stick" version with wood stocks and it is definitely an interesting weapon, but would anyone consider it a serious HD weapon?

I have a Benelli M4 for home protection and have no plans to retire it, but a Shockwave could be an interesting weapon that could be discreetly placed in the house,

A shotgun is a fine SD weapon.
A shotgun is much more controllable and suitable if it has a full stock
That said, in MOUT urban environments with narrow spaces and lots of corners, I see a definite niche. On twisty stairs or confined spaces, I think I want one.
    IMHO

I’ve shot one a few times, and while I certainly wouldn’t choose it over a standard stock, it’s considerably more accurate and controllable than I expected. It has its place, when a standard size isn’t an option IMO. Fun fact: they fit in standard Harley Davidson hard saddlebags on the touring models.

I'm of the wrong side of the "rack a shell and they'll run" equation. But I do think the sound of racking a shell is well known and I like it.

Just have an old Mossberg 500 here but it does have some OO shot shells in it. I took it out to the range just last month and cleared up some wild bushes for them. A shotgun does a bunch of hurt with one trigger squeeze.

My main squeeze is a Benelli M1. But, I bought one to carry for hog protection at times. At home, I like it loaded with bird shot. Quite an array of "improvements" for them now too.

Concept is great for putting it up and grabbing it fast, I would rather have a 18.5" Barrel and more capacity, with a stock, I can use it more effectively. Just my experience and what I train with.

In the end of the day you are only as good as what you are effective with.

A friend regularly practices with his at a longer distance than home defense, shooting from the hip at 35 yd. At a home defense distance he’s deadly accurate.

Without a brace or stock or shooting minishells - no.

I had a Shockwave...Sold it, bought a Tac-14....Sold it. Perhaps (probably) just me, but had trouble shooting them accurately. I think one with a green laser mounted on it would go a long way in the accuracy department.

I think SB makes a Boom Kit brace that looks nice and compact . I think the Shockwave fits a certain niche . My brother has a 12, and 20 ga., and within SD ranges they are impressive . I am looking at picking one up myself .

My TAC-14 shooting 2.75" #4 buck seems pretty devastating to me.
As a closer range shotgun in and around the house and from the seated position or just outside the door of my truck,it is a weapon that I will continue to count on. --- SAWMAN

    I'll elaborate..

Mossberg M590A1 Combat Shotgun, 18.5" Barrel, takes chokes too. I'll take a full stock and extra 4.5" Barrel over a brace.

I had a TAC 14 with pistol grip and a brace, wasn't stable with high brass rounds. Sold it when this came my way..

Rem 870 Tactical, 18.5" barrel, Mesa Tactical Pistol Grip Stock that is 1" shorter than normal. Very maneuverable weapon, tucks up nice. Again, extra 4.5" barrel length I'll take with full stock and capacity.

Much more accurate and shootable than I expected when I got one. I say yes.

Gotta disagree with you inside the house. Engagement so close it won't matter that much as long as "front faces enemy". But also why I like smaller shot sizes.

If you're determined to use the bucky, there's utubers that demo "proper form" for the birdbeak.

How many shots can you get on target? I think they are fun, but it is just spray and pray from the hip.

With birdshot at close range (under 15 feet--room size), all of them. I don't claim this is the perfect weapon nor that it is for all people. And, as I said, my main squeeze is the M1 Super 90.

I put a QD on mine and I do like the way it rides on a tac sling.
