Have had both and settled with the Winchester even though it ejects straight up which requires the scope to be mounted on side.

I like the Winchester because thats what they use in the cowboy movies..........And it is lighter and seems to point better for me

Flip a coin. Same gun same cartridge. Personal preference prevails in this decision. Winchester is lighter by 6 oz. Marlin has a better trigger. Both are lever guns...and if you are unhappy with it...well send me a p.m. I collect both :)

Without optics Winchester( less weight) BUT...... everyone will need optics sooner or later so a Marlin(better scope mounting) would be a better choice to me. Both are American Classics and you can't go wrong with either.

Actually I am incorrect. It's 12 oz weight difference according to the specs. Lol.

Marlin feels better to me. Going to be preference to the shooter. I've carried both, and go for the Marlin time and again.

Marlin hands down I'm a deer hunter and a avid hog hunter and my marlin 30-30 is by far the best gun to own and I always shoot REMINGTON Core-Lokt 150 GRAIN POINTED SOFT POINT

I HAD a win, still HAVE the Marlin... Just holds/feels better to me. The win is to skinny feeling to me. I like a girl with some meat on her bones know what I mean? All comes down to what you like when holding her tight.

Hey Bob, Notice that everyone stated which one they like more but no on said that anything was wrong with either one of them. Get which ever feels best in your hands and go shoot it.

I have a Winchester, I like it a lot, cant go wrong with either IMHO but if you tend to loosen your trigger hand when firing them the Marlin is a better choice, the Winchester has a "grip safety" for lack of a better term... cost a co-worker a few deer from him not gripping the lever tight to the stock when firing, I hold tight when firing so no issue for me.

I've got both. If I was going to mount a scope, I'd go with the Marlin.
For a walking around gun, I like the Winchester. It's lighter, sleeker and quicker pointing.

I have owned both in the 16" bbl'ed version. Would suggest that you take a look at something shorter than a 20" bbl for your intended purposes.
Remember also .......either can be re-chambered to 30-30AI.

For me...given your OP...I'd pick an OLDER Marlin. --- SAWMAN

Emcm2 You shoot POINTED SOFT POINTS in a tube mag. I sure hope they flatten the point on them or you are looking for a big BANG in the mag.

In either gun I prefer 125grn hollow point hand loads. Flatter shooting than the High dollar Leveroution crap. And will make a neck explode.
