Decided to build a pistol 308. Using parts obtained by swapping or buying from members. I have all the parts just need to sit down and assemble it. Got the upper built.
High rail dpms upper reciever, 11.5 BA barrel, ch and pig for linear comp or if needed extra gas, 10 inch premia handguard and nut, gas tube and low pro gas block unk maker, using bcg from the 24 inch DPMS target model and ch.
Complete dpms lower kit. Awaiting assembly by the bride.
    So far, so good.

That’s a nice setup. So reading up on the pistol of an LR-308 it seems that people tend to run a heavier buffer. I’d be very curious how that will work for your setup. I should’ve just kept the prs stock on mine I have a feeling this will be a headache again

Nice man. I've tossed around an ar build for a long time, but I've done the 223/556 a few times. They're boring as hell to me, but an ar 10 is so much more intriguing. Damned plague in early January though put any build on hold for the unforeseeable future. Maybe once I get the cardiac crap settled I'll be able to get back to work and do either a .308 or .357 ar build like I've been wanting

You large frame AR builders - - -> If your gonna build from scratch, why not pick a different chambering than the 308Win. Stick with the same bolt (face) and mags but change the round fired. (bbl)
There are several to choose from. Faster and lighter.slower and heavier. Big game, including elk, small game at the longer ranges.
Does a gun that would easily take an elk at 400yds or a gun that will produce 4000fps+ vels interest you ??
It does me. Take a look. Don't end up with a boreing ol' 308Win,the same as everybody else. --- SAWMAN

.308 is a tried and true round and one I know well, have plenty components to reload for. I'm not opposed to something different, but with an ar platform, it's not like you can't have multiple uppers. Start with a round you know. 308 works decently well enough in light brush for taking any game within 1000 miles, ammo is easier to find usually, and being .30 caliber, the components are abundant. Is it the latest, greatest, no. But there are a lot of arguments for .308

And you can't rule out barrel life for a .308, especially in an ar platform that could potentially see a lot of rounds through it

How much better will bbl life be with a 308Win than a 338Fed,260Rem,7mm-08,or 243Win ??? Especially if loaded, fired, and cleaned properly. --- SAWMAN

The bride assembled the lar308 lower this eve. There are some differences between these and the standard AR15. The safety and rear pin detent springs both rest on the grip right side. Also the bolt catch dosent have the roll pin, it uses a tiny Allen screw. At least on the dpms. No snap in trigger guard either.
Got it assembled.. I'll post a pic of it tomorrow. Time for test firing. Need another spitfire 3x now or PA 2.5X...crap.

In your OP, when you said "Using parts obtained by swapping or buying from members". I had to laugh only because it reminded me of Johnny Cash's song "One Piece at a Time".

260, 243, 6 creed and 6.5 creed have a barrel life of about 2-2500 rds. My last 6 creed barrel burnt out at just shy of 2k rds.

308 and 7mm-08 would be the best best, especially in a short barrel due to velocity. All the above mentioned rounds only excel due to speed for the G7 of the bullet.

Good to know. With the current ammo situation I doubt I'll get that close.

Took it out and shot. Used Vortex 1.5x4. The recoil was way less than I thought. Took the baffle out of the pig. Used it as a linear comp. Recoil was less than the 450b pistol and less than the full size C308 with comp/break. Accuracy was great considering the gi trigger and no bench rest. Holding just leaning on the bench. Pics from targets at 50 yards. Best shots after zeroing in. Did have something odd happen. Shot and reciever filled with smoke? The mag had smoke in it too. I had tried a new lube. Don't know if that was it or not. Might have gotten carried away with it. No ftf of fte. Used 20rd steel and 10 rd magpul. Shot surplus Australian, ppu match, fed match and steel case tul sp. All shot great. Look forward to shooting again.
