So I guess what you are saying is that initially the tax payer got to pay for it,and now we have been asked to pay for it again ?? Is that about right ?
In my time in the military i was issued gear that I never used. I gave it away or ended up throwing it away as it was all but impossible to turn back in. And if you did,you might never get it issued again or your units bugget might get cut.
I NEVER ONCE THOUGHT ABOUT SELLING IT FOR PERSONEL PROFIT/GAIN !!! ---- SAWMAN

Since the thread is still allowing posts, I'll add some clarity. I met with the OP. Nothing nefarious about the situation other than he has a lot of gear that needs individual prices per the Forum rules.

He is still active-duty. This is gear that was issued over a decade.

For those of you ground-pounders, jarheads, and squids, the Air Force doesn't usually require one-for-one swaps when issuing gear (unless it's expensive tech or something controlled like firearms, NVGs, etc). Also, that gear is issued to the individual, and there usually isn't a procedure for turning in used gear for re-issue, since the government is like auto-manufacturers these days: REPLACE vs Repair.

In addition, many units stationed in the Florida Panhandle issue gear that is commercially procured. Various reasons.

If you're issued a new widget, but your current widget is broken in, and serviceable, and you're confident in its performance, etc, many of us preferred to continue using that primary widget and keep the issued new one as the backup for the day your current widget BREAKS and it's a ginormous pain in the logistical backside to get a new one through channels. Easier to go to your closet than get another one issued from a supply closet that is now out of stock/funds. Consider it "prepping" for the smart military member: while the supply chain has gear, never say "no thanks", because the day you DO need it, there won't be any.

From what I saw, and from our conversations, this is the case with the OP.

Many of us ended our careers with "like new" backup gear because we took care of our primary.

His only "crime" is not putting individual prices on his long list of now unneeded used gear.
    Sounds smart to me

I'm merely stating the factual policy as I knew it, the actual process of issuing gear as I knew it, the known waste of used gear to the dumpster or syndicate system of "DRMO", and what I believe are the circumstances of the OP's gear.

As for selling for profit, etc, I'm sure some lawyers will dig up the appropriate policy and start splitting hairs. Sure, the taxpayer paid for it, with the expectation that it would be issued to the appropriate individuals for the mission. The supply chain owned the purse strings and authorized individuals rosters for who gets what and when. He did nothing wrong. He took care of his gear. He was a good steward of available resources. The only thing remaining is to try and put something "like new" back into a supply chain that DOESN'T ACCEPT IT. Imagine this: his stuff "looks" new. He takes it back to his supply guy. They put it back on the shelf and issue it as "new" gear to someone else? What if it was warped in his 140-degree storage unit, and the oils caked up, or the plastic melted a bit and seals don't work, whatever, and basically that widget FAILS the new troop? Not an option. So maybe it's not worth the risk of accepting used gear.
    Who knows. Doesn't matter.

"In my day" statements don't apply here. Sure, most of us passed gear forward to younger troops who needed it when the supply chain was barren. Most of us also took care of our stuff so we never had to rely on a passdown from someone else. To each his own. Who is to say definitively that he didn't do those same things?

I don't judge him for saving his gear. I don't judge him for selling it. He looks to be separating with an honorable discharge, so God Bless him for his service. He shouldn't have to justify selling used gear. You may be ok with throwing it away; I'd rather he sell it. The buyer will take better care of it because they have skin in the game. Just like kids take better care of toys they saved up and spent their allowance to buy vs a gift from a stranger.

Regardless, he didn't steal anything. I have no reason to believe he would. From what I believe, he more than Earned his gear, and if he chose to take care of it and no longer needs it, it's his to do with as he pleases. No different than selling an old pair of fatigues or BDU's or DCU's or ACU's or OCP's or or or...

Welcome to the US. You can choose to NOT buy it.

How about redirecting that venom and self-righteousness at someone you have proof is an actual dirtbag and Didn't serve their Country in uniform?

And with that, my comments are done here. Besides, I'm sure donr101395 is chomping at the bit to fix the unlockable thread issue anyway...
