Africa is no stranger to prolonged drought and in underdeveloped Countries large scale famine. Countries north and containing the Sahara have the same fresh water resource shortages. Growing populations exacerbate the problem. Control of water sources and fresh water production is in fact a means of power. Increased reliance on desalination produced water is a public health issue due to the simultaneous removal of healthy minerals like iodine.

Egypt has been overly dependent on the Nile with little forward thinking about maintaining/increasing availability while their population has also grown. They can water city and rural populations (our Tax dollars) but irrigation flows have dropped which impacts farming and therefore production for food needed for livestock and human consumption. Reality is Ethiopia can either allow the water meet the needs of Egypt and Sudan or there could be an airstrike(s) until the "flow" is restored and use 1929 Treaty and 1959 Agreement to justify their "restoration of water flow". The new GERD Reservoir will start its "Second Fill" this Rainy Season.

Desert people and others, have killed over water for centuries. Floridians get upset about water flow that's supposed to flow from Ga. Lol

No matter Egypt's Population continues to grow and even if the normal Nile flow continued, they would still have problems. I am not sure what the solutions are and I am confident that no matter what the Egyptians will not implement them effectively.

The Israelis have problems with some of their neighbors over water also. And in North America there is the Colorado River and Mexico's share of it and the quality of the water that arrives.
