I assume it is good for Hurlburt too, but you would need to ask
The exchange and commissary on Eglin are nice. Are the facilities on the much-smaller Hurlburt worth trying to get in?

With the new policy at Eglin/DOD and allowing disabled Vets to shop the policy is to take your VA card to the welcome center and get like a contractors card listing the places you are allowed...THEN that is your gate pass no problem. I use it everytime

So a CAC? Is it green or yellow on the front? I have not had a chance to go back to Eglin in quite a while. I worked there as a civilian from mid 2014 to late 2016.

Seems like a good rule to to have.
Has anyone ever blown a gun up on this range??

I can recall several incidents over 35 years. Most recently, a clown had to visit the ER to have part of a recoil spring removed from his face. Another mental giant blew an AR barrel about 15 feet down range. That's why you never have more than one powder on the bench.

I was issued a Defense Biometric IDentification System (DBIDS) photo ID card at Eglin. I had an office on Hurlburt (Gov't civilian) 2003-2009 and was surprised that Eglin had my photo on file. I don't know if it will get me access to Hurlburt but I just sent an inquiry on their website.

Hurlburt Security just told me that my Eglin DBIDS card will not allow me access to Hurlburt. Instead, I must visit the Hurlburt visitor center and they will issue me the same type card, but specifically for Hurlburt. It seems that a separate card is needed for each base to be visited. ...seems bizarre, but hey, it's the government.

what they told you is true. they are two totally different bases. and Hurlburt has more stringent rules on access. i remember when i was a cop on Hurlburt and the truckers would show up with that fancy DHS maritime dock DBIDS-type card. Eglin honored it but we wouldnt let them in. not saying its right or wrong, just how it is.

Hurlburt BX has a gun counter. Probably reason enough to go shelf-check for yourself.

Thanks for the clarification...wonder if it is good for the range?

From page 5 of the SOP (see the links in Post #2 of this thread)

    "2.1. Personnel eligible for membership:
    a) Active duty and retired military members and their dependents (18 and older).
    b) National Guard or Reserve personnel
    c) Department of Defense Civil Service personnel (Active and Retired)
    d) Contractor and LEO personnel authorized unrestricted-access to Hurlburt Field"

On page 3, there is contact info for the membership advisory council, if you want to clarify.

I think not. I recently emailed the range contact and inquired about eligibility. I mentioned my disabled veteran status, having previously had an office on Hurlburt, retired gov't civilian, etc... I never even received a reply.

The strict nature of Hurlburt is the reason I initially went to Eglin (plus I made the assumption that the Hurlburt BX & commissary facilities would be minimal). I had an office on Hurlburt for a few years before I retired and am familiar with their strict rules for access. The first time I visited Hurlburt (working for GSA) I showed up in a government vehicle and I had government ID. The gate guard's attitude was "so what...what's your business here?" I had to arrange for an escort the first couple of times.

Interesting, they never questioned our AF (Eglin) civilian CACs. We used to cut through Hurby in our carpool from Eglin to Navarre.

well sure. that is a CAC card. they are good at any DoD base in normal times. but that biometric card is recognized at the base commander's discretion.
