I grew up in orange grove country in FL. We had a lot of stumps in the grove that had to be pulled out. We used an old Ford 8N tractor with a chain run over an old steel truck rim which translates into more of a vertical pull rather than horizontal. We also would put an old piece of carpet over top of the chain to prevent any mishaps. We never had a problem doing it that way.
Hear tale in Pine Grove they use tannerite
