First horns on camera lol. A lot of developments going in around my land have made the deer scarce on camera this year. May not get a good buck until the rut kicks in like last year

Hope so!! They clear cut near our club, pushed deer towards us.

Yeah they put up houses all around me. Still have the same does that live on the property and draw in the bucks from across the street but it looks like they are still staying on the creek in the thick for now. I put some cams in Blackwater last week and hope for some good pics. I think I spend more time with trail cams and get pics than I actually do hunting. Need to change that haha

If ya can grab a copy of the Alabama hunting guide. Free in sporting goods stores. Has a good article on horns and reasons the horns are sometimes non typical. Also covers the misconception that all goofy horned deer need to be culled. Good read.

Mississippi was the same way during the depression, my dad’s 80 and has stories of “ blue deer” from Wisconsin being huge heavy deer. IMO some of the big deer taken around the river delta are descendants of those deer brought in years ago.
Deer hunting has climbed to a new level here now, you got to have money or know of a plot of ground that’s unmolested or you just take what you can get.

If this buck had of came out 5 or 10 minutes earlier I would have dropped him this evening, my vacation ends next week and have passed on several bucks, was getting my gear ready to climb down and my camera went off, just could make a dark silhouette out so I opted not to pull the trigger and make a terrible shot, maybe we will cross paths a little earlier in the day

I dislike taking a shot real late in the day. I have concerns about locating the deer in the dark if it runs. I don't want to kill a deer and not be able to find it.

This brings up a good topic. How do you guys track a shot deer in the dark that has been shot and has run?

You’re spot on Bay Ranger, I don’t want to track one after dark either. We owe it to these magnificent animals to make a good shot.
