Hi, I am trying to date and determine the value of 2 Norinco Sporter rifles.

My neighbor who is 80 was an FFL dealer back in the 60s. He thinks he acquired them in the late 60s or just when they were released for availability. He kept 2 of these new in box, never fired. I

    The serial #s......

    A) One is a 6 digit # starting with a "1".
    B) One is a 7 digit # starting with a "7"

    Both have the sling.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you.

Helps to mention if they still have the folding bayonet.
Here is thread on dating a particular SKS and there is likely more at: https://www.gunboards.com/threads/c...-investigative-analysis-of-sks-dating.952666/
    Example of information posted there
    1953: A00,001 thru A62,000 for a total of 62k rifles.
    1954: 1,000,001 thru 1,305,000 for a total of 305k rifles.
    1955: 1,305,000 thru 1,402,000 for a total of 98k rifles.
1955: 3,000,001 thru 3,330,000 for a total of 330k rifles. <----- First year with 26 stamp.... (no triangle)
    1956: 4,000,001 thru 4,063,000 for a total of 63k rifles.
    1957-1959: No production.
1960: Letter series starts: A through K, Assuming 9999 per letter, that leaves around 110K rifles. <--- now has triangle around the 26

Here is an example of a 1955 dated 3rd year production.

Thank for the starting info. Here are the pics of the markings. What is strange is that the one with a 6 digit # does not have any of the triangle or factory stamps. The 7 digit one does have the 26 stamp. The boxes are generic with only the serial # on them.

I have both bayonets and slings. Here are some pics of the one with only 6 #s in the Serial #. I saw an "N" stamped in the stock as well. I just cant seem to understand this 6 digit # one. The 7 digit one seems fairly straight forward.

I think according to the picture that these were purchased after the '94 assault weapons ban.

Sporters typically are commercial versions, have a thumbhole type stock and no bayonet groove. What you appear to have here are B-West imported, probably refurbished Type 56 military SKS. B-West went under in the 90's after the Chinese rifle ban went into effect.
