Help Identifying this shotgun?

Hey all. My Dad was given this ol' side by side after my grandpa passed 2 years ago. It's all in French? We've had a hard time figuring out who made it and what gauge it is, I'm thinking 16, but he only has 12ga shells which are too big.

You may need to get a gunsmith to be sure it’s safe first. Some of those really old ones used black powder shells and I’m not sure you can even find those anymore.

Walmart or just about any other gun store. Get low brass shells.

I dig through the 12 ga shells on the shelves at different Walmarts, you’d be surprised I find a box or two of 16 ga shells mixed in with the 12’s all along. I stock up on the 16’s when I find them like that

Looks like the gun is chambered for the early 2 9/16” shells, it may not be safe with 2 3/4” shells, as said above check with a reputable gunsmith before firing
