My wife serves on the Crisis response team as a mental health professional, but it doesn't have the same benefits. From what little I could find on the State Guard, they get full state benefits even as a 'part time' employee. The benefits enough would be a good thing to have, usually better than most employer (or in my case self-employed) benefits

Last I checked most of these groups were in central and south Florida and I got turned down for being out of their area and never being able to afford travel to training. You want to be part of a local group if you want to ever make it to a call. Volunteer (and train) locally.

By the way, Escambia County has one of the oldest and best search and rescue volunteer units in the whole country
