I had not heard of this until recently. Does anyone have any more insight on it? I know the Director is a retired Marine. Seems like a great idea to me. One that has taken too long to come about.
Do you think they'll let more than the suggested 400 in?

It was a thing back in the 40s - Looks like Gov. DeSantis is starting it back up.

Interesting idea, but I'm sure it will get politicized instantly.

Does the funding imply that there's pay? If so that would be an awesome gig. It's a cool gig even if you don't get paid. Kudos to him for it. Every free state should do the same if they already dont

Agreed. I think it said theres a stipend $400-500?) for certain levels and the training is 2 days a month I believe.

The things that kept me out of the florida national guard were :
    1. Vaccines mandate
    2. Theres still federal authority involved
A state run Guard is exactly what I was wanting then. Maybe there will be more than 400 slots.

    I'd be interested as well.
Ill start a new thread on CERT tomorrow based on what I find out... or @NavCorman might want to since he seems to know more about it and we can just add in whatever we find out. :)

The State guard isn't for me as my spouse is already required to go in for emergencies so I wouldn't really be able to commit to that.

Wow. That is awesome. If I wasn't all gimped up I'd sign up in a heartbeat. I hope they get a good group of our ex military too. I wonder if they make extra when deployed?
