Finally got around to taking some pictures of the old girl......

Typical Egyptian M1868 No 1 Remington Rolling Block. Finished in the white, well worn, marked several times. My reading has shown that only numbers not words were marked on these rifles by the Egyptians. Well the one marking is a word, the meaning of the word eludes me right now. I've reached out to a couple Arab speaking friends for help on it.

Last patent date listed on the tang is March 18th 1874, so from what I can tell it was made between 1874 and 1876, as the last delivery was supposedly in 1876.

Need to order a few parts and hunt some down.

    1) Extractor, found it.
    2) Extractor retaining pin, found it.
    3) Firing, pin found it.
    4) Firing pin retaining pin, found it.
    5) Rear barrel band with screw, found it (Original barrel band screw is MIA and the hole for it is buggered up)
    6) Replacement sling swivel for middle barrel band, found it (Old swivel is about worn through).
    7) Firing pin retractor......Still looking for that one.
    8) Bayonet, I'll look around and see if I can find one at a decent price.
    9) Sling, still trying to figure out what the proper sling for these are.

So found 6 of the 7 main parts needed right off the bat, not too bad of a start, then the two accessories to round it out.

    Markings on the rifle.

Plus the EP half moon (Date is worn off), supposedly the EP stands for Egyptian Protectorate or Egyptian Police.

Trigger assembly tang SN G 7895
Receiver assembly tang SN 40308 (Official serial number for records purposes)

    Nice looking... Great markings.

Nice little background story on the Egyptian Remingtons..

    https://americansocietyofarmscollec...-Remington-Rolling-Blocks-in-the-Horn-of-.pdf

The only thing wrong with The Vintage Rolling blocks is a lack if cool crests and inprints like Mausers. Rolling blocks were just to utilitarian.

True, but they are full of history if you take a minute to listen and look. Been offered a Italian Vetterli, have a Swiss Vetterli already. Got my eye on a few other old rifles to add to my growing collection.

French M1874 Gras Rifle made in 1877.
    British Martini-Henry.
    Italian M91 Carcano.
    U.S. M1863 Springfield.
    Etc.
    Etc.

The list never gets shorter, no sooner do I mark one off, 2 to 3 more get added.......

On the Martini Henry, what caliber are you leaning towards??

What caliber is the Italian Vetterli..??

Don't know if the Vetterli in still in its original 10.4x47mm cartridge or has been converted to the 6.5x52mm Carcano cartridge. I'll have to ask him..

As to the Martini-Henry I haven't really decided, in all actuality as long as it's a military cartridge it doesn't matter.

Sarge, I passed up on one just like that two years ago at a pawn shop in Montgomery

I was on the fence with this one, I went back and forth for about a month or so, before I pulled the trigger.

I've got the firing pin retractor inbound, found the rotary shell extractor waiting to hear back on it. Need to find a firing pin and firing pin retractor pin (Might make one from a drill bit if I can confirm some information). That will make her 100% complete, as I have a bayonet and sling for it now.

Added: Forgot I need a screw for the rear barrel band, and might replace the sling swivel on the middle barrel band. The swivel is about worn through on the back side, looks like it will snap at any time.

Same Egyptian RB, so only one. Tried to get a photo with the bayonet on in the house that didn't work. I'll have to wait and get an outside shot of it to do that.

Right now I'm chilling out waiting to hear back from my Cardiologist, been in an out of fibrillation since last night. Had EMS here last night, but it wasn't bad enough to warrant an ER trip.

Plus the change up of my meds, has my blood pressure all over the place.

Guess indoor light gives the wood a different look..

Hope you get to feeling better..

Yeah, the natural lighting shows how light the wood is and highlights the dark areas. In the house the wood looks darker then it really is.

When I get a chance, I'll take an outside shot of her with her bayonet attached.

Doing better than last night, but I can tell/feel my BP is elevated even though I'm just chilling in the room watching the idiot box. I'm still popping in an out of fibrillation, but it's nowhere near as bad as last night, but still annoying as hell, and isn't lasting very long either.

Thanks, that is loooooooong, hope you are feeling better.

Thank you for the well wishes, I'm getting there, my body is still adjusting to the new meds, and the adjustment of my old meds. My blood pressure is starting to stabilize, and go back to normal.

My heart still has gets some funky heartbeats every so often, but they are getting less frequent. So hopefully I'm heading back to my pre Afib status.
