Visiting a friend down near West Palm and got a invite to visit a jam up shooting range near Lake Okeechobee.

    Okeechobee Shooting Sports Website linky:

Outstanding place and people that operate this place.
One thing they do in particular I’ve never seen is their effort to catch ricochet’s....(I guess)

Stacked up telephone poles over the top of berm!

Probably a pre-emptive show of effort, however feeble....just in case one drops on somebody way out there.

They must have people within range behind their berm. Doubt that's for ricochets. Somebody may have told you that, and it very well may be catching ricochets on its back side, but I'd bet good money that whoever originally did that did it to keep people from shooting over the berm. If management was worried about ricochets, they would sooner outlaw steel targets than erect a safety hazard like that

Nobody told me anything and I didn’t ask.
Just a observation and a guess.

    More guessing:
Berm material is sand,,,sand stacks poorly unless you got enough area and want to to take up acres to stack it..... Poles easier to stack than sand.
Boy Howdy,,,,,,a few rounds of tracer or incendiary could turn that pole thing into ashes.....

On another observation, the RSO’s were great! Friendly, helpful and observant while never being in the way or ever exhibiting a cocky attitude.
On another nearby range I heard the rattle of several machine guns.
    Right on!

Had trap, skeet and sporting clays going on. A 600yd(?) range with a elevated structure made out of container ship box’s.
Had those box’s stacked maybe 30’ high in different angles like maybe simulating shooting out of a building.

I only been exposed to the shooting ranges in the Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties and it was pretty cool to see such a complex as this one.

The range in Holt, FL has stacked shipping containers, too

Not to mention, most FMJ 308 and 3006 and also most belted magnums will go through a phone pole. I found this out while using a wood back stop on private property with CMP surplus 3006, which rumor has it is equivalent to 308
