This stuff any good for a defense round? Just picked up a couple boxes at Academy to give it a shot

Should mention it will be carried in a Shield 9 and a G26

Corbon has a long history of making good stuff, I wouldn't expect this to be any different. That low weight should make it quite speedy. Out of a Glock, it should feed just fine.

I personally prefer Hornady Critical Duty or Barnes XPD or whatever it's called.

I think a light 9mm bullet with a +P rating would be like a .380 with real balls, not to mention, recoil would be mitigated by the bullet weight. I am thinking it would be in the same category as a .357 Magnum shooting +P .38 Specials, of course, depending on your firearm of choice.
I would love to see some results shooting this round out of a 16 inch barreled carbine.

Powerball does not reach the generally accepted penetration standards for premium self-defense ammo.

I was once asked to promote this stuff, based on my credentials as a Tactical Physician, gun instructor, etc. I refused.

I've got 2 boxes of Critical Duty and 1 box of Barnes if you're interested in good SD ammo.

Thanks for the offer dan but I still got a shit load of Gold Dots and Golden Sabres left. Im good to go on sd ammo for a bit. Just wanted to try something new, you know how that goes.

Been wanting to give the HST's a shot as well. Been hearing good stuff about them

Most of u have more experience than me..but my understanding is that the powrball line was meant for firearms like 1911s that have feeding issues w tradition HP rounds..I also use 147 grn critical duty..it seems to get the job done on paper and other people's testing..hopefully ill never need it for the real thing

Interesting. If it's for feeding issues, you'd think they would have also make them of a standard weight since that can have an effect as well. A properly tuned 1911, will run just about everything.

"The Glaser® Pow'RBall was originally designed to eliminate feeding problems in pistols that would choke on the new large mouthed JHP bullets"

That's from Corbon's website..as for bullet weight I have no idea

The only thing I've ever had trouble feeding hp's was a cz82. I've only owned 1 1911 though so I don't know about those

Oh, I believe it. I just know there's some 1911's that do not like 185's for instance.

I had an RIA that refused any kind of hollow point. In trying to make it feed, I would have tried a polymer filled jhp (never got to) in 115 or 147, not 100.
But then, maybe the 100's may have worked.

In a glock , it's kinda pointless though.

Well my Shield and 26 will eat anything I feed it, so I guess I just pissed $40 down the drain. Oh well guess I will be sticking with my Gold Dots for now. Will be saving the corbon for a rainy day
