Long ago I remember spraying some WD40 in a carpenter bee hole at my Dads barn.
Dad was watching me and said,

this might not be as exciting as some of the solutions proposed here but i found that a small net on a long pole works great. scoop them out of the air, slam it on the ground then pound their fucking armored bodies to mush. very satisfying.

Swat a bee and put it inside the bottle, draws em in.
