So I bought a Brownells buffer tube. Package says: AR15/M16 UNFINISHED 5 POS BUFFER TUBE.
None of the 3 stocks I tried fit. Mil spec M4, magpul sl, sba3. I've heard about commercial spec tubes being the wrong size, but the package says nothing like that. What gives?

Brownells buffer tube assembly is offered in mil-spec and commercial. Their website states, "Commercial carbine kit comes with 1.17" O.D., six-position receiver extension for use with commercial or “universal” buttstocks. Mil-Spec kit has a 1.14" O.D., five-position receiver extension for correct fit of military M4 carbine buttstocks."

I would measure to see what the O.D. truly is. Maybe a commercial was mispackaged.

It looks like 1.17. And its a smidge bigger than a couple of other tubes I checked. Crap! I'll chuck it in the parts bin. Glad I didn't order 2!

Why not call Brownells to see if they will do an exchange?
